Rust: Explosive Ammo Guide

Other than using a bow and arrow, or hitting everyone with a stone. you can also use firearms in Rust. There are also several types of ammo that you can load into your weapon. This guide will tell you all about the type of explosive ammo in Rust.

Ammunition in rust

Let’s start with the basics. There are different types of ammunition in Rust. Each is used for a certain category of weapons:

  • Shotgun ammo
  • Rifle ammunition
  • Arrows
  • Rockets
  • Pistol ammunition

Some of those ammo can be found in supply crates that you can find and loot in the world. Or you can create them. For crafting, all ammo types (except arrows) will require gunpowder and metal shards. Arrows require wood and stone.

5.56 Rifle ammunition

5.56 is a caliber of ammunition used for assault rifles. You may know that from games like PUBG where M4 rifles also require 5.56 ammo.

In Rust, you can load the 5.56 into the assault rifle, LR-300, semiautomatic, bolt-action, and M249. The automatic turrets in Rust also use the 5.56 ammo type.

Now there are different types of 5.56:

  • 5.56 Rifle ammunition (normal bullets, shoot, hit)
  • 5.56 Rifle Explosive Ammo (flies slower and deals less damage, but causes an explosion on hit that damages structures)
  • HV 5.56 Rifle Ammo (HV – High Velocity. They fly faster and deal the same damage as normal ammunition, but are more expensive to manufacture)
  • 5.56 Incendiary Rifle Ammo (decreased speed and damage, but has a chance to start a fire on impact)

Depending on the situation, using the correct type of ammo can turn the odds in your favor. Use them to get an advantage over your opponents.

5.56 Rifle Explosive Ammo

5.56 Explosive Rifle Ammo is assault rifle ammunition that has a lower projectile velocity and deals less damage, but initiates an explosion on hit.

Explosive ammunition can be made from the following materials:

  • 10 metal shards
  • 20 gunpowder
  • 10 sulfur

It takes 10 seconds to craft 2 rounds of explosive ammo, stacking up to 128 rounds per stack. If you want to research the blueprint for this ammo type, you can do so for 125 Scarp on the research table.

Now that this ammo does less damage, it is not very useful when it comes to killing people. But what can you use it for? The answer is simple: Raiding.

Raid with explosive ammunition

Raiding is literally attacking other players’ bases with the goal of obtaining the loot stored there. It is a common practice in Rust and it is part of the game. Whether you want it or not, one day you will be mugged too.

To break into the base you will have to destroy the walls that defend it. You can do it with the help of any explosive in Rust.

Explosive ammo deals good damage to structures, especially wood or sheet metal, which means that trying to attack someone’s base is the best way to spend your explosive bullets.

Using Satchel Charges is also an option when it comes to Raiding. However, briefcase charges are more expensive to manufacture and will consume more resources, unlike explosive ammunition.

Time to raid the shed!

I hope you are prepared for it. But I’m pretty sure he is because now he’s got his pockets full of explosive ammo that he knows all about thanks to this guide he just read (without praising myself).

Go find some loot, but know that someday someone will come for yours.
