You can start your Sims 4 journey with just one Sim, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue your Sims’ entire lives without a family in your home.
Whether you create new members or invite them in, it’s up to you how your family grows.
Your household does not have to be made up of family members. Players will create homes full of friends to live their days in their own little bubble of friendship.
Some will have a flourishing romance between two soul mates. The opportunities are endless to create your own unique homes in the world of The Sims 4.
There are many ways to add a new Sim to your household in Sims 4. Here is our guide on the best way to add a Sim to a household in Sims 4.
Create a SIM
Just like you should do with your original Sim at first, you can create a new Sim to join you and any existing Sim you already have.
To do this, you need to create another Sim in a wasteland. Once you have created that Sim, you will need to merge the two households with the “Manage households” option in the map view.
From there, click on the household and the Sim you want to move and move them to join your existing Sim.
Some people prefer this way when looking for a companion for their Sim. It means that you can make them as compatible as possible to write your own love story with the Sims together. Here’s more on how falling in love can fill your home.
You can also create a new home with more than one Sim and merge it with the one you already have to have a more complete home.
Make a family
Romance is a great thing within Sims 4. Creating your own love story is one of the most organic ways to expand your home.
Make two Sims fall in love, whether it’s a separate Sim that you created or one that’s already in the game, and ask them to move in with you.
From there, create your own family for a lively home filled with several different generations.
Add an existing Sim
Your Sim can invite another existing Sim in the world of The Sims 4 to join their household. Your Sim must be in a friend or higher relationship in order to ask them to move.
Once you get to this point, interact with the Sim you want to move to and click “Request to move” in the friendly category.
If the Sim you have selected to move in has a baby, toddler, or child, they will also move if there is no teenager or older in their old home.
Limits in homes
Currently only eight Sims can live in a household so be careful when selecting who you want your Sim to live with.
You can always make multiple households and have many parties if there are too many Sims that you like and you cannot combine the households.
If you have The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs expansion pack, pets will be included in that total of eight. Having two Sims and six pets seems like a very nice balance to me.
What traps are there?
Like many things in the world of The Sims 4, if there is something you want done quickly, there is a catch to it.
To earn additional Sims in your household, there is more than one way to create scenarios to add additional Sims to your household.
First, to open cheat system on PC or Mac, press CTRL + Shift + C all together, while in game. To access the cheats on PS4 and Xbox One, press all four triggers at the same time.
You can add more friendship and romance between two Sims to speed up the process before asking them to move in with you.
The trick to improve friendship is modifyrelation [first sim’s first name] [first sim’s last name] [second sim’s first name] [second sim’s last name] [number] Friendship_main
To improve the romance between two sims is modifyrelation [first sim’s first name] [first sim’s last name] [second sim’s first name] [second sim’s last name] [number] Romance_main
If you want to add a Sim to your household quickly, the trick is Relations.create_friends_for_sim. This will spawn a new Sim that you are friends with. You just have to ask them to move in.
Disclaimer: Some cheats may not work in Sims 4 for console.
So there we have it. The decision is yours on how to expand your home in The Sims 4. Have fun and create those fun, lively and happy lives for all of your Sims.
